A holiday at Cornwall is a good way to escape the cold north and welcome the southern sun's caress. In this sunniest part of the UK, there are more things you can do and enough heat to fire up your limbs for some outdoor adventure. Now, where to start?
For a Cornish vacation that's well spent, start out with these activities:
- Going on a Tour of St Michael's Mount
Get a taste of the medieval and the majestic with a visit to a scenic isle crowned by a centuries-old castle, which is inhabited and maintained by the St. Aubyn family since the mid-1600s . There are two ways to get there: by a short boat trip or a walk across the causeway (at low tide). You can arrange for a garden tour in the castle grounds where you can learn of its history and admire its beautiful architecture. When hunger kicks in, lunch at the Sail Loft Restaurant, where you can expect to find locally-grown produce in many of its dishes.
- Visiting Land's End
See where the north coast meets the south and let your eyes feast on the magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean stretching far beyond the horizon until it touches the shores of America. You can also learn of the history and heritage of the region from an audio-visual presentation called Lost Labyrinth, which also includes stories flavoured with adventures at sea. Similarly, take advantage of the End to End Story, a free attraction that tells of the amazing stories of people who have travelled from this granite wonder to John O'Groats (or vice versa). You will also get the chance to observe traditional craftsmen at work in their shops, as well as candy-makers cooking up sugary treats at the Cornish Sweet Manufactory. Children, on the other hand, can enjoy some time with the animals at the 200 year-old Greeb Farm.
- Camping in convenience
What better way to enjoy the outdoors than to take the whole family to an unhurried tour at the heart of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) with a well-equipped holiday caravan or tent. This arrangement gives you the best of both worlds as you get to enjoy the beauty of nature as well as modern amenities made available in the premises.
